The Youth Alive program recently attracted almost 200 participants, including kids from Sunny Hill Adventist School and young people from many local churches.

Recent participants in the Youth Alive program at Sunny Hill Adventist School in Kuching, Sarawak, from September 18–21 were about 160 young people. Emphasizing a positive, peer-led approach to prevent, this program focuses moving young people away from smoking, alcohol, drugs, and other addictions.

Youth Alive is a transformational program enabling young people to realize the dangers of smoking, drinking, and drug usage while addressing underlying issues including stress, peer pressure, and family relationships. By use of their trust in God, the program encourages participants to pursue peace and resolution by means of events fostering spiritual connection.

Under the “Freedom” theme, the program included a range of interesting events including friendship groups run by experienced adult facilitators, educational seminars, plenary sessions, unity games, and a potent drama stressing the real-life challenges experienced by people overcoming addiction. Apart from instructing participants, this immersion program built a support system.

The Youth Alive program recently attracted almost 200 participants, including kids from Sunny Hill Adventist School and young people from many local churches. Moreover, 50 dedicated facilitators were very important in guiding participants through the program to ensure that everything went as intended and that every young person possessed the means to fully engage in the experience.

A necessary first step towards improved life and personal growth, 36 young individuals promised to follow Jesus. This program made possible by the collaboration between the Sarawak Mission and the Health and Youth Ministries Departments of the Malaysia Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists (MAUM).

Jennicia Isaiah, one of the facilitators, says, “I have the honor of guiding these young people in prayer, therefore enabling them to acquire inner tranquility and spiritual strength. This method enhances their health and allows them to overcome obstacles. Young Alive can provide young people the tools they need to boldly and faithfully negotiate the pressures of life, therefore guiding them toward better decisions and brighter futures.
