Around 100 to 120 people visited various booths, exploring what each had to offer in terms of knowledge and practical tips for healthier living.
The Health Expo held at The Star Mega Mall in Sibu on 20 July 2025 was a meaningful and impactful community initiative event designed to promote healthier living and preventive care among the Sibu multi-racial communities. Organized by the Sarawak Adventist Mission Health Department, Adventist Community Services and the Sibu Seventh-day Adventist Church, the event aimed to provide both physical and spiritual health awareness in a supportive, community-centered setting. From the start, the event carried a strong sense of purpose, to make basic healthcare accessible, educational, and empowering for everyone who walked in to this Health Expo.

Throughout the five-hour program, visitors were warmly welcomed by a dedicated team of volunteers. The day began with free health screenings using the Health Age Plus system (HAP), where 78 people had received their personalized health assessments. Services included BMI checks, glucose checks, blood pressure test and professional health counselling were given for free. Around 100 to 120 people visited various booths, exploring what each had to offer in terms of knowledge and practical tips for healthier living.

One of the event highlights was the presence of Dr. Jane Yap, Health Director for the Malaysia Union Mission (MAUM), who shared her insights on the importance of preventative health. Her encouragement left a positive impression on both the volunteers and visitors. In addition to the screenings, participants engaged in a wide range of interactive activities. From a healthy cooking demonstration and a fun Charobic group exercise session to hydrotherapy and anti-stress massage booths, every corner of the expo was designed to uplift, educate, and inspire.

There were also dedicated booths focused on specific health themes, such as nutrition education based on Malaysia’s food pyramid, and anti-smoking awareness. These stations provided simple yet impactful messages that encouraged guests to reflect on their lifestyle habits which they can change. The friendly environment made it easy for visitors to ask questions and learn from the health team without feeling unattended. Children, parents, and elderly visitors alike were seen engaging with volunteers, sampling some healthy food samples and joining in the Charobic, a true picture of a united community taking steps toward a better health.

Overall, the Sibu Health Expo at The Star Mega Mall was a meaningful health event worth remembering. It truly brought together health professionals, church members, and volunteers in a shared mission, that is to raise awareness and nurture a healthier, happier lifestyle. The organizers are hopeful that this will not be the last. With such encouraging feedback and participation, more similar events will surely follow, reaching other communities across Sarawak and continuing the message of whole-person health, body, mind, and spirit.
